A man who devoted his whole life to the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy

Andriy Meleshevych – Scientist, Lecturer, President of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (2014-2019), Dean of the Faculty of Law of NaUKMA (2005-2014).

He had strong values and principles, never compromised with conscience. He did not stop believing in the victory of good and had a big heart. His contribution to the Academy, to students, graduates, teachers and staff is invaluable.

Among the changes and achievements of the university during the presidency of Andrii Meleshevych were the opening of new specialties and specializations (psychology, management, philology: English and Ukrainian), the creation of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy, the Department of Public Relations and the Department of Strategic Development, several research and training centers, including the Center for Psychological Health and Psychosocial Support.

According to the students, it was Andriy Meleshevych who immensely improved the Faculty of Law of NaUKMA. He constantly supported student initiatives and self-government.

Andrii, despite all his regalia and rich life experience, was extremely easy to communicate with. On the sidelines after the lectures, Andrii could calmly, in an informal setting, in jeans and a T-shirt, discuss important issues of politics and law with students from different universities, listening to everyone’s opinion. For Andrii, everyone was equal, because equality and freedom were his basic principles of life, which he never tired of passing on to those who could hear him.

With his help, the restoration of the NaUKMA Old Academic Building began and the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation was founded in Canada. And these are just a few examples of Andrii Meleshevych’s achievements.

Clear values and social position were manifested outside the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Andrii Meleshevych was a member of the Board of Transparency International Ukraine, a member of the Constitutional Commission of Ukraine, a member of the National Council on Anti-Corruption Policy of Ukraine, drafted the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education”.

Scholarship is support for those who make changes around

The scholarship is for 3 master’s students: of the Kyiv-Mohyla School of Government named after Andrii Meleshevych, the Faculty of Law of NaUKMA and the master’s program “Anti-Corruption Studies”. The name of Andrii Meleshevych is directly connected with these programs. He was the dean of law, helped create the certificate program “Anti-Corruption Studies” and the Kyiv-Mohyla School of Government appeared due to him.

The scholarship for one student will cover one year of study in the program.

Why is it necessary to collect UAH 1.5 million?

The NaUKMA Alumni Association operates on an endowment system. When contributions are collected in one monetary fund and not spent, only the accrued interest is used instead. 1.5 million allow to receive UAH 150 thousand – exactly how much is needed each year to cover three scholarships.
